Recovery Update

First, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for every prayer, donation, meal, message, and act of kindness. We have felt so loved and carried through all of this.

I've now been at Mary Free Bed for aΒ  little over a week, and I'm happy to say I'm making progress every day. Recovery is definitely not easy, but it's moving in the right direction.

I'm able to get up now and have started taking little "hop steps" with my walker. I still can't put any weight on my right leg, so I'm hopping with my left while using my arm strength and carefully scooting my right leg along. It may not sound like much, but every little victory is a huge milestone. I've also been practicing getting in and out of a car and working hard every day to get stronger.

Physical and occupational therapy are some of the hardest things I've ever done. There are moments when I want to quit because it hurts so much, but then I think about Ethan pushing through Army boot camp right now. If he can make it through one of the toughest challenges of his life, then I can keep fighting through mine. He's become one of my biggest inspirations.

As if this journey wasn't enough, we also received unexpected news. When Tim was checked out after the accident (he was with me but thankfully wasn't seriously injured), the scans revealed a 9 cm tumor on his left kidney. It turned out to be cancer. The doctors believe it has likely been there for about two years, completely unnoticed.

His surgery is scheduled for August 18, and they plan to remove the entire kidney. Right now, everything points to it being localized, and we're praying that surgery is all he'll need.

As scary and overwhelming as this has been, we can't help but see God's hand in it. Had the accident never happened, there's a very good chance we wouldn't have discovered the cancer until much to late. It's hard to call any part of this a blessing, but we do believe God can bring good even out of the hardest circumstances.

Please continue praying for healing, strength, wisdom for our doctors, and peace for our family as we walk through this together. We truly couldn't do this without all of you. So so so so greatful. xo -The Henrys
