After 332 days of having a G tube, and 6 months of not needing it, we are officially FEEDING TUBE FREE!!!!!
I think back to the day we decided to move forward with this, and it was a decision we had been wrestling
with since he was born.
He had never gone more than 10 days without a feeding tube and it was clear that his journey was going to be longer than we originally thought.
What originally felt like a complete failure for me as his mom and personal nurse, ended up being our biggest blessing yet. It supported him exactly how we needed it to, and despite the extra effort and the learning curve, wasn’t as terrifying as we originally thought.
After 11 months, not only has he maintained his growth without needing the tube, but his growth has actually accelerated and he’s up to the 79th percentile for length and 45th percentile for weight.
His journey is far from over, but this is a huge step in the right direction for him. The remaining hole should (and already is) closing on its own, and our hope is that it continues to and we can avoid surgical closure. 🤞🏼
Thanks for riding this roller coaster ride with us- we couldn’t have done it alone!!! 🫶🏼
