Hey everyone. My MRI results posted late Friday night, but I just got a chance to go over them with my breast surgeon today. (The waiting game the last few days has been an emotional and anxiety-ridden nightmare!) But after meeting with her today, I feel much better.
The bad news is that the IV contrast picked up more "non-mass enhancement" than we originally thought. I'll let you all Google what that, but essentially it's suspicious tissue that picked up the contrast. It's not the defined tumor itself. But since I have confirmed cancer, we must consider every bit of non-mass enhancement as well.
The good news is I will be getting a bilateral mastectomy later this year so my surgeon will remove all that BS no matter what. BYE! Other good news includes:
- My lymph nodes all remain normal
- My right breast is also normal
- Even with the additional non-mass enhancement, there is significant shrinkage to the tumor which means the chemo is working
- Despite the additional non-mass enhancement, my surgeon is confident she will get clear margins during surgery
Now onto phase two of my chemo...I started my new drugs last week and they are definitely something. Fatigue hit me much sooner afterwards than I'm used to so I feel like I have to learn my response timing all over again. And the fatigue is still around, popping up randomly throughout the day. Like yesterday, I took a 90-minute walk in the morning that felt great, but at night I was making dinner and felt like I was going to pass out. Chris had to finish so I could sit down. If you know me well, you know I HATE feeling like I can't keep moving. I've also lost a ton of eyebrow hairs and my lashes are starting to go. My hair is still thinning too. Finally, my platelets are clearly affected because the smallest scratch (probably from our new kitten Milo - see previous update) takes forever to heal.
In other news, Christopher took Roman and Dante to Boston last weekend to see the Red Sox play the Dodgers at Fenway! They had an amazing time! Meanwhile, Luka and I stayed back. We went to multiple playgrounds, hit up the farmer's market, cooked pasta together, and had slumber parties in mommy's bed. :)
