Happy Breast Cancer Awareness Month!!! In honor of Pinktober, I want to remind all women to:
- make sure your next mammogram is on the calendar
- do your self exams weekly, ideally laying down
- report any noticeable changes in your breasts to your doctor
- and if you are under the age of 40 but have a family history of breast cancer, advocate for your self and get early mammograms and genetic testing
A bunch of co-workers and friends are walking in the Making Strides Silicon Valley event this Sunday. It will be a super fun way to celebrate current fighters and survivors. Big thanks to Ivan for making our team shirts.
Now for my MRI results...good news! The scan confirmed there is continued shrinkage after the completion of chemo! Turns out my actual mass (i.e., the defined tumor) is still visible, but is now about 1cm or less. Mass + non-mass enhancement is now about 3cm in total. This is another 2cm of shrinkage since my last MRI in July! Chemo is such a horrendous experience, but it worked and that is all we could have hoped for.
As mentioned in my previous update, we now shift to surgery. Pre-op appointments with my breast surgeon and plastic surgeon will take place over the next two weeks. More to come on my surgery plan as we get closer.
Thanks everyone!
