Ways to Help

Hey friends!   We have promised many of you that as Grey’s Bone Marrow Transplant gets closer, we would make known ways that you all can come alongside us in this time.  We have been talking to people we know who have gone through similar things with their children and families, and have been trying to think through everything we may need during this Transplant process.  As needs arise, we will continue updating the various lists (on here, and his Amazon wishlist).  I want to thank you all for the ways you have come alongside us thus far.  Thank you so much for the prayers, meals, laundry, and generous gifts to our family.

Before I get into specific ways you can help, I want to share the dates we have for the Bone Marrow Transplant so far:

Greyson will get a Bone Marrow Biopsy on Monday, January 26 in Savannah.  If this biopsy still shows remission, we will proceed with the appointments in Atlanta.

February 3rd and 4th, Greyson and Norah will have appointments with the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta.  They will both have check-ups and will get any needed tests.  For Greyson, this will include a several-hours-long kidney test and an MRI.  We will also meet with the BMT team to discuss the process.

February 9th and 10th, Greyson and Norah will have another check-up with the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta.  We will also meet with the team at Emory to discuss the Radiation plan for Greyson.

February 16th Greyson will be admitted to the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta and will have surgery to place a central line.  This date is the official date of Greyson beginning his stay in Atlanta, where he will be until sometime in June.   This week he will have chemo and radiation to prep him for transplant.

February 24th is TRANSPLANT DAY!  Norah will have her Bone Marrow Aspirate (which is the donation part), and then when it’s all ready, it will be given to Grey! The process of the actual transplant looks like a blood transfusion.  It is given to him through his central line like a blood transfusion.  The transplant gives him a whole new immune system, and his doctors said it’s like he is being born again, so they will celebrate this day like a birthday!    This is day 0/100.  The first 100 days post-transplant carry the most risk, so they keep him in Atlanta for 100 days.  We will be there from February-June.

Following the transplant, Greyson will be getting regular blood/platelets transfusions until his body starts making his own blood.  Once he is making his own blood, we will be able to be discharged from the hospital and move to the Ronald McDonald House in Atlanta, where we’ll be until he is able to leave Atlanta in June.

Needs:

Prayer- First and foremost, we need prayer.
Pray for:
  • Healing for Greyson
  • Courage for Norah
  • Peace for our family
  • God to provide for all of our needs
  • Strength and Courage as we spend our days apart from one another (mostly Greyson and Alli will be in Atlanta, Josh and the kids will be home in Savannah)

Meals and Laundry-

We have added dates from February through June to help with meals and laundry for our family home in Savannah.  You can sign up to help with these under Lend a Hand on our Support Now main page.  We will add more as needs arise in Savannah or Atlanta.  I will put SAV or ATL before the title of each need so you can sign up for the need that is local to you.

Funds for Gas and Car Maintenance-

We are going to be doing a lot of traveling over the next several months.  Funds to keep up our cars and pay for gas would be very helpful as this adds up very quickly.

Gift cards for Food-

  • for food while we travel
  • Door Dash and Uber gift cards to help feed Greyson and Alli in Atlanta

Amazon Wishlist-

We are keeping this list updated with things we need and a couple of things we want for Greyson or Norah.

Grocery and Clothing Gift Cards-

  • Costco
  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Sam’s (both Boaz and Greyson wear pull-ups.  We use the brand Goodnites in size XL.  These are pricey and the cheapest place to buy them is at Sam’s)

Funds for the Ronald McDonald House

  • The Ronald McDonald is a wonderful place that allows families who have to travel for medical care to have a place to stay.  When Greyson is released from the hospital, we will move to the RMH and spend about 90 days there.  This is also where we will be staying when we travel up for appointments.   The RMH asks for a donation of $20 per night you stay.  Over the months we stay there, this will add up, but we want to be able to fulfill this request since the RMH does so much for our family and others like us.  We would appreciate some funds to help us fulfill this request. If you would like to learn more about the RMH, check them out here: https://ronaldmcdonaldhouseatl.org/

Funds for Airbnb

  • Once Greyson has moved to the RMH, we are considering doing one or so stays at a nearby Airbnb where all 7 of us will be able to be under the same roof for a night or two.  We would appreciate funds to help make this possible.

If you would like to give funds for anything mentioned here you can Venmo me at @Alli-Corbitt

Again, thank you all for your prayers and support. 🧡🎗
