The Bozell Family
Hi everyone! I know it has been a little bit since I have last updated. I try to make longer posts instead of of little ones here and there. So far, recovery has been hard for Mike. Here are a few things that have happened over the last week.
- Mike has been coughing quite a bit. The cough has been good though. He is coughing up clear gunk which we believe is the gunk that has been sitting in his lungs for about a month now. The CT scan showed that his lungs are slowly improving!
- His new nephrostomy tube is doing better. The surgeon still thinks there is a little leak somewhere inside. Unfortunately, they do not think that his tube that was cut is going to fix itself. This means another surgery. He has also been getting bladder spasms. They took a urine sample at the urologist yesterday so we will wait to see what the results of that are.
- Mike's 12 inch wound is healing so well! We had been packing the wound with gauze strips since the first surgery. Since then, the holes have almost completely closed!
- His colostomy bag is a work in progress... We are trying very hard to get used it. It is for sure a learning curve. I have done some research and we have been getting free samples of different bags to try and find the best fit.
- The CT scan showed that the possible hematoma has shrunk a bit. This is good! We are still not sure if it is for sure a hematoma or just a pocket of fluid. Maybe urine?
- His pain has subsided a lot and he is now able to walk around and he even walked up the stairs! These are big steps for him!
- Mike's heart rate was 146 yesterday at the doctor... They were very concerned about this and almost wanted to admit him again. They ended up sending him home and we will be watching it really closely. When we have checked it, it has been high 90's-110ish. I am not a doctor but Mike did walk into the clinic on his own without his walker. He hasn't moved much in the last month so I really think he was just anxious and had too much activity.
- He has an appointment with his infectious disease doctor on Wednesday to check out how his sepsis is going and if the antibiotic is still working. Hopefully we can switch to an oral pill so he can get his PICC line out. I love pretending to be a nurse and giving him his PICC line meds everyday. This is our bonding time!
Overall, these updates are still great and we are constantly praying for him and his recovery. Baby steps!! He is showing a lot of improvement. We are so so very proud of him! Mentally, He is doing better at home. However, he is still very nervous for these next 2 surgeries that are coming up. We wish he didn't have to have 2 more surgeries. So we are asking for continued prayers for his complete healing and prayers for the future surgeries. These will not happen for a while but it is never too early to pray! We love you all so very much and can't thank you enough for all of the support. Please feel free to call or text Mike!
