What a week for Jonah! Fall break looked a little different this year since he had to stay in Atlanta for radiation every day, but his friends and some pretty incredible people made sure he had a week packed with FUN!
Tuesday night, thanks to Matt Wollner, Jonah and Adam got to go to the Braves playoff game. Wednesday night he hung out at the Wolks', and Thursday, when the proton radiation machine unexpectedly broke down, Jonah headed right to a friends house.
And one of the BEST parts of Thursday? Jonah, Adam and Ozzie came out as a team to support YES DAY at our big charity clay shoot!
Jonah had never shot a gun before, but apparently he's a natural—safe to say he may have outshot his dad! And to make it even cooler, they were teamed up with former Falcons Pro Bowler and legend Ovie Mughelli!
It was such a fun day, and having Jonah, Adam and Ozzie out there supporting YES DAY meant more to me than I can put into words. With everything this family has on their plates, seeing them out there laughing, competing and enjoying the day together was incredibly special.
And honestly, watching Jonah try something completely new and have so much fun doing it was another reminder of what we're fighting so hard for—more days like THIS.
He even managed to squeeze in some time at a friend's house that day. This kid has been BUSY!
And then came the weekend!
Some of Randi's best friends from college came into town to spend the weekend with her. It was exactly what she needed—some time with her girls, lots of laughs and a little break from the heaviness of everything. Seeing Randi smile and try to enjoy herself was a pretty big YES for all of us. Of course there is always the heartbreak in the background - but we did our best to live positively in this moment.
Saturday was an EPIC day for Team Blick!
Thanks to Adam Cohen and the incredible Rally Foundation, Jonah, his family and Grammie were treated to a VIP experience at Falcons practice. And when I say VIP, I mean they were literally ON THE FIELD with the players!
Jonah got to spend time talking with Kyle Pitts, Bijan Robinson, Drake London, the coaches and so many of the players. He even got to break down the team huddle! They absolutely spoiled him with swag, autographs and signed memorabilia from his favorite players.
Jonah and Adam spent time talking to Kyle Pitts about their shared Gator roots and telling him how the University of Florida is working on creating a personalized cancer vaccine just for him. Pitts thought that was incredible and is now a huge Jonah fan.
The family also brought along their Blicky Strong bracelets to give to the players, and Kyle Pitts immediately put his on!
So everyone watching Sunday Night Football tonight—KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED! We may just spot some #BlickyStrong bracelets on the field!
And because apparently one incredible sports experience wasn't enough for the day, Saturday night Bret Friedman treated a huge group of Jonah's friends to a suite at the Atlanta United game! Great seats, tons of food and a night surrounded by his buddies. Exactly where a 14-year-old boy should be.
And TONIGHT, the Falcons have invited Jonah and his family back for Sunday Night Football, with some pretty awesome seats in the 200 section! Another incredible memory in the making.
Seriously, the generosity of people who continue to show up for this family is something I will never stop being amazed by. Every one of these experiences gives Jonah something to look forward to, something to talk about and another reminder of how many people are in his corner.
A little medical update...
Thursday's radiation machine breakdown was a bit of a bummer because it pushed Jonah's final radiation date back one day. His new finish line is October 22! Thankfully, the machine was repaired by Friday evening, and Jonah was able to get his treatment in later that night, so we avoided another delay.
As far as side effects, we're seeing a little more hair loss in the area receiving radiation. Jonah still isn't ready to buzz his hair, and that's completely okay. This is one thing he gets to control, and we are going to let him tell us when he's ready. No pressure, no rushing him. We follow his lead.
And speaking of changes, we also made some serious progress on the room swap.
Friday morning, Melanie, Marisa and Ali showed up ready to WORK, and within a few hours we had swapped just about everything between Jonah's and Micah's rooms! Clothes, sheets, belongings—you name it. We still have some decorating to do to make Jonah's new space extra cool, but I'd say we did a pretty impressive job in just a few hours!
Now, if we can just get the helicopter ceiling fan out of his new room, I think he'll be a little happier with the situation.
The goal is to give Jonah his own bathroom, more privacy and a comfortable space to relax as we prepare for the next phase of treatment. And hopefully, with a few fun upgrades, it'll feel less like a medical necessity and more like a pretty awesome teenage hangout.
So where are we emotionally and mentally?
We're doing everything we can to keep life feeling as normal as possible. School, friends, football, laughter, family time and making memories. There is still so much uncertainty ahead, but right now Jonah is feeling good, staying active and enjoying being a 14-year-old boy. And we are incredibly grateful for that.
We have 11 days until the new radiation finish line, and then we'll begin preparing for the next phase of his treatment roadmap.
For now, we keep taking it one day at a time, finding the joy wherever we can and surrounding this family with as much love as humanly possible.
Thank you to everyone who continues to show up for the Blicks. Whether you're making a phone call, arranging an experience, inviting Jonah to hang out, checking on Randi and Adam or simply sending a prayer—you are making a difference. I promise.
Keep the prayers, love and positive energy coming.
GO FALCONS! GO JONAH! #BlickyStrong
