Keeping busy

It’s been about a month since my last update, and it’s been a busy month. I started my new chemo Trodelvy on September 16. New chemo means starting over with the Benadryl and the steroids. I do understand why, but it is my least favorite part. Thankfully, the first two infusions went without incident. The nurse even congratulated me on being boring. My side effects were mostly manageable. Fatigue, sometimes followed by steroid energy bursts. Some nausea, but the meds help keep that under control. My white blood cells dipped after my first infusion, thankfully I was right at the minimum and able to get my second. Then the week off, my energy was good and I hoped my white counts would rebound. They did but not much. This means I was ok’d for infusion this week but we also have to add a med (filgrastim) to boost my numbers to make sure I’m ready for next week. This shot to my belly is given daily for 3 days after infusion. The plan is to eventually let me do this myself from home. But this will take time for insurance approval and shipping. So I’m getting lots of clinic time this week. I’ve heard this med can cause bone pain so I’m a little nervous about that. They tell me Claritin helps so I’m taking that and hoping for the best. There’s also an IV fluid shortage due to the hurricane. I was lucky to be able to get my chemo this week and keeping my fingers crossed for next week too.
In non cancer news, Sam is wrapping up his football season and Zoe is finishing up volleyball. We’ve been enjoying watching the progress they’ve made. But I’m also looking forward to a quieter time on the sports front. We’ve got plenty of holidays coming up to keep us busy!
Scott and I and a group of friends attended the Minneapolis Metsquerade last weekend. We got all dressed up and helped raise money for stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer research. This was our third year attending this event, we look forward to it every year. If you’re interested in joining us, next year’s is scheduled for Sept 27, 2025. We are so grateful for the support of our friends and family who attend with us in person or in spirit.
I am scheduled to have my next PET scan November 5th, so we can see how this chemo is working. I am really hoping for my first good pet scan this year. Send all the positive thoughts and prayers you can!
