Birdie has made some really great gains in the last couple of months. Stay with me I have lots to update!! 

After stem cells in December, she had a Neuro focused intensive in Jacksonville and completed a four week therapy intensive locally while also doing hyperbaric oxygen therapy. 

Her improvements include: arm strength, core strength, extension and reflex patterns calming, started some balance and postural compensation, sitting skills are emerging, more controlled motions, midline orientation better, sustained gazing, eye tracking, and muscle tone has improved. 

March last year, GI recommended placing a feeding tube. We did not feel that was the best next step for Birdie. We wanted to give her the chance to gain feeding skills. Since then she has been working really hard in feeding therapy multiple times a week. It was extremely slow going in the beginning and took months just to get her eating two ounces consistently. She had fallen off the growth chart and was plateauing on her weight gain. Since December, she is now eating eight to ten ounces three times a day! And, she has gained two pounds in two months! This is amazing since she hadn’t gained even one pound in a year. 

We had confirmation from her eye doctor that she went from severe Cortical Vision Impairment (CVI) to mild CVI. All the progress we were seeing with sustained gazing, tracking, and more unity in eye movement was confirmed medically. It’s a reassurance that all the interventions we are spending time and money on are making a real difference. It is sometimes hard to know if we are truly seeing these subtle changes, but being told from a medical perspective that “yes, improvements are happening” is such an encouragement. It also confirms for us to stay the course. 

We are continually praying about what therapy to schedule and travel for. We are incredibly grateful for the faithfulness and provision of God. We know we can stand on his promises that he goes before and behind making a way. He has used you to be part of Birdie’s victory story. Through your generosity and prayer Birdie is able to get life changing therapy.
