I wanted to use this chance to update everyone on my current medical journey.
On April 8, 2024, after several week of fatigue and feeling “not right”, along with Michele having some concerns about my memory, I developed headaches and nausea and was taken to the emergency room for evaluation. On that day, after exams and a CT, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. We were in the ER for 26 hours waiting on a bed at the Atrium Main hospital, where brain surgery could be performed. I was able to have resection surgery on April 12, where it was discovered that the golf ball sized tumor on my right frontal lobe was glioblastoma brain cancer, grade 4. My surgery was successful in removing the tumor from the surface of the brain, but the cancer is aggressive and fast-growing, and I will need to start treatment immediately (radiation and chemotherapy) in order to try and fend off the growth. I have been resting at home, trying to heal as much as possible with Michele and Georgia’s support. I will have radiation and chemotherapy treatment 5 days a week for 6 weeks starting May 13. I will be unable to work during this time and am fortunate to have access to long term disability leave starting in early July.
We are very lucky to have had one of the best neurosurgeons for the surgery and one of the nation's leading neuro-oncologists for care. We have been blessed to have so many of our family, neighbors, friends from near and far, Michele's book club, my co-workers (current and former), and Michele’s team at LPL Financial to bring meals and offer support. I apologize in advance if I have not responded personally to everyone, but we really do appreciate all the words of encouragement and keeping us in your positive thoughts and prayers. This is a difficult time but we are grateful for each day we have together.
