Another child down with the flu! Poor sister. Another addition to the medicine list she was already on, this time in the form of children's robitussin, fruit punch. She hates it.

Aunt Emily (me) had a day of solo-ish caregiving for 3 as grandpa and aunt tami had to head back over to the twin city house, and as Grandma Darcie and Aunt Valerie especially were down for the count to rest (by my orders)
We managed, with the only the Youngest being the last kid standing (or wheeling)
Speaking of wheeling around, anyone have any suggestions to slow this kiddo down? He has an opposite broken leg from Arm, with a broken right leg and left arm, which means he has figured out how to go FAST across the house by kicking his foot and pushing the wheel with his arm. ALSO he keeps launching himself backwards by kicking off of everything, walls, furniture, beds, kitchen island, you name it it has has his foot on it to launch. We keep telling him to slow down but his attention span only lasts for maybe an hour or two before he's back at it, the Crazy kid.
Oldest brother is feeling better after lots and lots of fluids, and seems to be healing nicely from his abdominal and facial surgery. He has a wound/drain area that gets packed with material, and it looks the best it has been today.
Sorry for the late update! I was pretty tuckered out after the day, but all is well.

Emily & family, Hollie was a friend as well as my doctor. Of the many things we had in common, our love for our nieces and nephews was at the top of the list. Like Hollie, I've never had biological children; we had chatted recently about how we were put on this earth to be the fun Aunties instead of full-time moms. I remember talking about her truck years ago. She said she bought it with her nephews in mind, "so they can fit comfortably in the backseat." You already know this, but Hollie loved you all so, so much. It was such a blessing to have known her, laughed with her, and received her special "healing hugs." Cheers to the small victories! Sending love and healing hugs, Simeon & Ben Hickman

Hollie was my doctor for a very long time, and we became friends in the midst of that 17 years. She helped me through a lot of things….one of them being when I fell fell, and broke my knee. I spent a year in a wheelchair, praying it would heal. It’s really difficult to be in that position, having all this time to do nothing but sit, and feeling unable to contribute and do anything that benefits anybody else. The mental side of that situation was exponentially more difficult to overcome than the physical. If he is someone who has a big heart for helping others, just small things that he can do that can contribute to the comfort his siblings or his family in someway might go a long way in helping to calm the physical busyness in order to not have to deal with the mental busyness. I don’t know you guys, but I know her and I love her dearly. I am praying for your family…. For physical healing and for mental/emotional healing. I pray that this helps in someway.

Here are some ideas that I searched to safely slow him down. Also ask PT and OT. You can get bolt-on friction resistance pads (such as Safe-t mate style speed restrictors) that attach to the rear frame and apply adjustable drag or friction directly against the large rear wheels. This makes free-wheeling and rapid acceleration much harder without entirely preventing him from moving when he wants to. Anti-Tip Bars (Non-Negotiable): Because he is launching himself backward off walls and furniture, ensure his wheelchair has anti-tippers installed and facing down. This is a critical safety measure to prevent the chair from flipping over backward when he pushes off hard Lap Tray / Desk Anchoring: Since his attention span tops out around an hour or two before he starts tearing around again, set him up with a sturdy wheelchair lap tray for high-engagement, seated projects (like building sets, intricate puzzles, or crafting) that require both hands and naturally discourage leg-kicking. I can have a couple of things delivered if he has a tray. Upper-Body Strength Outlets: Redirect that right-arm and upper-body energy into safe, stationary outlets—like resistance bands anchored to a table or an upper-body ergometer/hand peddler if cleared by his doctor—so he burns off steam without wheeling across the house.
