Surgery Complete!
Paxman's Surgery Support
Paxton is out of surgery! We have not seen him yet as he's in recovery and the team is working on removing his intubation tube. The surgeon came to see us and told us it went as well as could have been expected. He received one unit of blood (the less the better) and they were able to complete surgery without stopping his heartbeat, which is great news for long term health of the heart.
These next 24 hours will be the most critical of his recovery. He has two chest tubes in for draining excess fluid. The cardiac team will be monitoring many different things to make sure he is OK in the immediate aftermath. His pressures spiked as expected from the new blood flow in his heart. The expectation is that will gradually come back down as he recovers.
We can't wait to see Paxton once he is settled into his room on the cardiac care floor. We'll send another update later today once we get to see him.
