I'll start with saying Paxton is relaxed and sleeping now.
Today was an eventful day where this kid gave us a scare. He came back from the cath lab, and soon after getting back to his room he stopped breathing and turned purple. They think there was some issue with how a medication wore off too soon when his body was still in a paralyzed state (normal for cath procedures). About 15 people were in here, acting very quickly to getting him breathing on his own again.
The cath resulted in no surprises. Pressures are still where they have been since surgery. The squeeze of his heart is ok. So that's good news.
Next steps now are him starting care with the heart failure team. That sounds worse than it is. All single ventricle kids are technically considered in heart failure from birth. There are some medications that a specific heart failure doctor has to prescribe. There are some options that have had really good success for fontanes with constant drainage like this. We're going to slowly start some and build them up to see if they can help improve the heart function a little more. All while also protecting his kidneys and liver.
One of the heart failure nurse practitioners came to see us just now. She said we are "nowhere close to talking about a [t word]". He has good function to give his fontane a chance in combination with these medications.
We still have not heard back from CHOP. With the Microsoft issues worldwide today, that likely contributed to the delay. Hopefully we will hear their thoughts sometime early next week.
While Paxton is introduced to some new medicine, we are going to enjoy the weekend together as a family.
