First of all, thank you for your prayers and your generous support for Olivia. We feel your prayers and have seen the fruit of them firsthand - it’s amazing. God has been faithful through Olivia’s journey, and we have full confidence that He will bring her through this to live a long, healthy, normal life.
It’s been five months since my last update here and roughly six months since she started treatment. Overall, it’s been a good experience that has progressively improved with time. The first couple of months were rough - lots of medication side effects, including full-body rashes, general weakness, and even a blood transfusion. However, even as tough as the side effects were, the main symptoms from the tumor began to diminish and, in some cases, fully go away. She stopped vomiting fairly quickly, and her head tilt became less severe. The two-month scan showed minimal to no shrinkage.
Since then, things have improved. While she still deals with side effects, they’re no longer severe enough to send us to the ER. She was able to hold her head straight up for the first time in a long while. She’s become more active physically and more engaged mentally. Best of all, her smile, laugh, and overall happiness have returned - there’s no better feeling for her mother and me than seeing her joyful again. The improvement has been visible not only day-to-day but clinically as well: her tumor shrank around 25% on a 2D plane at its largest view on MRI (a lot more on a 3D plane). We cried happy tears for a week. We know the medication is helping, and we believe our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is orchestrating the healing - we are humbled by that.
Over the last two months, she’s really started to thrive. She’s learning new skills every day and constantly amazes us with how smart and intuitive she is. She began trying to walk - first with a little walker we made for her, then holding one of our hands, and now she’s walking independently! The medication still makes her feel weak at times, so her walking can look different depending on her energy level. She has developed in so many ways and has been a true warrior princess through it all. On the tougher days, when the medicine gets the best of her, we think back to where we were just a few months ago and can’t help but thank God for His hand in her healing. We just returned from her six-month scan at St. Jude and saw even more shrinkage. God is so good.
We know this is a long journey, but we’re incredibly proud of our little girl’s fight. Thank you all for your thoughts, your contributions, and especially your prayers. Please continue to pray for her - for more shrinkage and full healing.
