Momma Mix and Family
Greetings to All Those with a Generous Spirit,
Colleen, here. I call myself Momma Mix for this SupportNow fund because my sons have a different last name from my maiden name after divorce in 2014.
It's time I thank you all officially for these very first donations in my family's time of intensified hardship.
Without your generosity, thoughtfulness and your selfless nature it took to donate portions of your own hard-earned dollars, we'd be in a predicament ultimately leading our living situation to become immediately at risk.
I have requested my first expedited payout from this platform. I expect it to arrive tomorrow, Monday April 27. Once it hits my bank I will be able to satisfy the portion of the mechanic's estimate cost for parts and officially begin the repair on my 2018 Dodge Journey--the very resource I have been utilizing since August 2023 to drive Uber passengers full-time.
In the meantime since our car broke down on April 15, 2026, I have accepted odd jobs to earn through manual labor with a gracious friend I have known for years named Tammy.
First I cleaned out her shed, removing many heavy items, sufficiently spraying down the interior after am encounter with a trapped rat, but ultimately replacing both shelving and a multitude power tools.
Next, I spent 4 days last week assisting her paint the exterior of her house. I will include an image of us during day 1 or 2 out of 4 days so far of our painting process--and we're still not done!
This set of commissioned work will not last forever, though, and it sure is hard on my body. I have several unseen physical conditions/disabilities on board, not to mention other unseen challenges as well.
However, I've been barrelling through, happy to work with my hands and with paint, again. Once upon a time, 20+ years ago, I remodeled an entire house. I have been loving this change of pace away from driving-to-earn in many ways.
The arthritis in my lumbar spine is not the only condition which has been flaring up since this kind of work. Since taking a break for the weekend all this labor has me recuperating more intensely (and painfully) than I have been, before: I will include for this update an image of what this is like for me to wake in the morning over this weekend, currently.
I still choose to smile, even with all that seems to be mounting up for me to tackle as the head of my household.
Again, thanks to your donations:
This week I have been more comfortable and less uneasy about spending the hard-earned pay for manual labor on Uber rides to run errands, to be able to buy my mother 2 packages of the incontinence products she requires daily, and have treated my sons to some Metro Diner Chicken and Waffles yesterday when we took to explore our area on foot.
My sons and I walked about a mile to reach their newest hobby local store! Photos of my mother and sons will be included in this update. It is important to me to put my full attention to them when they are home.
We had worked up an appetite from making such memories and it helped me to feel good that I could feed them both what they preferred.
My sons live between two households--between two while cities--and deserve stability as my older son studies in a high school Fire Academy to become a state certified Firefighter by the time he graduates in 2028.
Once I get my car repaired, that will free me up to drive Uber only if necessary, but I am really heading toward a primary occupation change.
We need this car to function well (soon and long-term) without to much further wear and tear so I can get my mother to and from her doctor's appointments.
In fact, Mom has been sick this week with a virus which is now working its way down into her chest.
Mom recently received a vaccination for both flu and pneumonia when my youngest was here sick with Flu A, but Mom has always been prone to deep, long listing bronchitis infections. This is the first time she has been sick like this since before 2020.
If her cough gets worse, she will need to see a doctor.
I will need a way to get her there. The Dodge Journey is the only vehicle she is comfortable getting into with her disabilities. An Uber won't work because if the seat is too low she wont be able to stand up or out from the passenger's seat.
If she gets too much worse too fast we'll have to call on the local Council on Aging for handicapped bus transport, which she has always been resistant of trying.
Mom has been recovering from stroke since Spring of 2022, 6 months after my father died, which presents another host of challenges at times.
The help we need now is for anyone already following this fund to personally show close family and friends, or to speak on it to them on our behalf-- People you know, who will listen, who would bother to care for just one family like us in this already chaotic global situation.
Let them know that SupportNow.org is for support of families, not just one person. Let them know there are many ways to contribute. Please help those you share this page with to understand how this platform is meant to support ongoing situations, especially for those who have one (or multiple) family member(s) with disabilities, loss, or ongoing challenges just like we have experienced and are experiencing.
The repair of my car is just one challenge which is the largest obstacle for us as a family right now.
Food stability is next on the list.
Cost of food tin current times for a family of 4 takes from our ability to continue paying our cumulative bills on time.
We must ensure we have a roof over our heads, already in a low-income apartment program a part of HUD housing. If we lose this place, we could lose everything in the most literal way.
We are not planning to put Mom in a retirement home. That is not her wish, at all. This is where she will be, here in our apartment home together with me as her caregiver, indefinitely.
Food gift cards are helpful, and so would be any item on our Amazon registry linked on our SupportNow page.
All the dominos must stay standing for our best case scenario.
Keeping a positive outlook is crucial.
With each new donation, our morale boosts and our stress levels fall. With any gift card donated, we are alleviated of having to pay money toward food with income earmarked for our bills, instead.
I have an interview Tuesday to be support in a school the boys and I know and love as daycare teacher. Good things are on the horizon.
I am trying my best to hold it all together.
Thank you so much for your assistance. Thank you for sharing for the urgency and momentum of this fund .Thank you for giving. Thank you for caring. And thank you for following; Encouraging others to simply follow this page and receive updates will be supremely helpful.
Word of mouth is more powerful than we sometimes can imagine.
Thank you for being here.
All the love,
Colleen Mix,
