June 16 PACU Update: Post-Surgery Recovery
We’re in the PACU now. Avry is resting. She woke up briefly, whispering in groggy, slurred words, “Mama… Mama… lay with me,” and then, “Take me on a stroller ride.”
She tried to roll toward me and reached her arms up, wanting to hug my neck. I held her hand, and she clung tightly.
She’s still so feisty—even now. Her speech is unclear from the anesthesia, but she’s already bossing the nurses around.
She has a nerve block in place to help manage the pain, along with a morphine drip. We’re doing our best to keep her comfortable and still.
She’s in and out of sleep—mostly out. Jake just switched places with me and is laying beside her now.
The surgical team cut the sweetest bandage: a strip of gauze shaped into three little hearts across her belly.
We’ll be in the PACU for a while longer before transferring to her room on the surgical floor.
Dawn and Lois came to pray in the healing gardens while we waited. I can’t think of a more thoughtful, peace-giving gesture.
Thank you for continuing to hold us in your prayers—and for all your kind messages!
