It’s been a busy few weeks over here! Maddox has had a lot of different appointments, and we officially switched to a medically complex pediatrician. I really think this will be so helpful for him in the long run.

We also got established with an orthopedic doctor and did a baseline X-ray of his hips. The good news, everything looks great! His hips are well aligned, and there are no signs of hip dysplasia 🙌 We’ll follow up in a year just to keep an eye on things.

We also went through the process of getting Maddox a compression vest. This is designed to provide gentle, consistent pressure to help with body awareness, stability, and overall sensory regulation. He’ll also be getting his helmet tomorrow! This will help correct the flatness on the back of his head. Overall, his head shape is pretty symmetrical, which is encouraging. He’ll need to wear the helmet about 23 hours a day for the next 6 months.

Last Thursday, we met with neurology and the dietitian again. We’ve decided to move forward with a ketogenic diet, which we’ll start on May 18th. This will require a 3–4 day hospital stay so they can safely monitor him as his body transitions into ketosis, adjust his nutrition carefully, and watch for any side effects like low blood sugar or dehydration. Our hope is that this will help control his brain activity and possibly allow us to reduce some of his medications. We’ll definitely share more about this journey as it begins.

This week, Maddox has also been attending a DMI intensive therapy and he has been working SO hard! Two hours a day, nonstop. His therapist is really happy with his progress, and his rolling is slowly improving! I’ll share more about this in another post.

Most importantly… Maddox’s 1st birthday is coming up!!! 🎉 We truly can’t believe it’s been almost a year since he was born. He is stronger than anyone I know and has been such a fighter from day one. Maddox is one of the biggest blessings to our family, and we can’t wait to celebrate him on his special day 💙
