Sleep is Promoting Healing

We're home! It's the best place to be—for spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional health.
The past two nights at home, Mike has slept more than the combined sleep he got during two weeks in Trauma Care. Add to that a few naps each day. Sleep is certainly promoting healing, and he has a little more energy each day.
Having the trach out is huge for him! That hole is covered with a bandage and will be completely closed up within the next week. God designed our bodies so beautifully to heal well under the right circumstances. I love how the Trauma doc described it to us. She said, "Our bodies really don't like holes where they don't belong, and they try to close them as quickly as possible." That's a very good thing!
We hear a slight improvement in Mike's voice today, probably due to two things: the trach hole closing so that less air is escaping there, and his throat and vocal cords healing from the vocal cord surgery. He has talked very little for the past two days, as recommended by the docs, which makes for a very quiet house while our kids are on a special trip with my family. I must say, that as two introverts here, it isn't really bothering us. =) We converse enough to connect and are both getting rest for our spirits.
Mike's eyes and face are progressing through the healing stages with bruising and swelling decreasing each day. He is navigating the house very well with sight in one eye, and we'll attempt an outing soon. We connected with our local ophthalmologists here (a husband and wife team who have taken care of our family's eyes for many years), and they want to see Mike pronto, so we have an appointment Tuesday. We're both thankful that they want to be thorough in assessing and determining if there is really no hope for any sight recovery in his left eye. We want to do all we can for his sight, while trusting God's good plan for all of this.
His left hand is healing nicely, and he has enjoyed playing his Merlin (If you don't know what it is, look it up. It's a cool instrument!) the past two days. Don't worry, he isn't using his broken finger. =) He is longing to get back on his guitar though!
We continue to be in awe of God's goodness to us, and the little and big blessings every day that are flowing through each of you with your prayers and support. Thank you very much! We love you all!

- That God would give our ophthalmologists wisdom and insight, and give Mike and I peace with the outcome for his left eye.
- That his right eye would continue to heal fully (it's still light sensitive) and be healthy and strong.
- That God would show grace on his voice and allow it to continue to heal and improve.
- That God would give Mike and I strength and peace and clarity as we begin to look toward the future and make decisions about what this all means for our family.
