Hello friends,
Mike and I are overwhelmed by your love and support! I can't tell all of you how thankful we are to see our precious friends across the country praying for Mike's healing and supporting and taking care of our entire family so well in many ways. Praise God for brothers and sisters in Christ like you!

I apologize for taking so long to post here. It has been a difficult journey this past week, but God is faithful always and has held us up through this. God gave Mike's initial EMTs presence of mind to intubate him almost immediately, and that saved his life. After several days and a couple surgeries, Mike has been more stable. This week involved a huge amount of pain and distress for him as breathing tubes and a trach have been involved, which made sleep impossible and every breath seemingly a fight for his life. Friday he finally saw some relief in breathing as docs adjusted his trach. Yesterday, they put a speaking valve on it and he was able to speak to me for the first time in a week (we had been writing on a notepad to communicate before this. It was glorious! Docs also scoped his throat (it is still too swollen to assess damage to voicebox) and opened his upper airway to allow some air to travel through his mouth and nose. His throat is still very swollen and there is only a small opening.

Mike's left eye is healing, but unfortunately docs feel confident that he will have no sight. Our God is a God of miracles and He also has his reasons for certain things. We trust His will in all of this.

Here is what the near future looks like. Mike was moved out of Trauma Care ICU to regular Trauma Care last night. We expect to be there through Tuesday or Wednesday. We do not yet know if he will have the trach removed before we leave, or if it will remain in for a few more weeks. He will do a barium swallow test on Monday to determine if he can safely eat.

Please pray:
  • That his left eye would heal well, in whatever way God ordains for that.
  • That his voicebox would be fully functional. (He loves to sing!)
  • That his trach would be removed very soon.
  • That his fractured hand would heal completely.
  • That he (and I and our children) would continue to draw near to God and trust in His sovereign plan.
  • That our family would take the time and steps necessary to heal in all ways from this.
  • That our faith and trust in God would grow as we trust Him for financial provision.

Don't worry, my next updates won't be so long. =) Again, Mike and I are so very thankful and brought to tears daily by the incredible love and support being shown to us by all of you. Thank you so very much!
