Hey there sweet friends and family!

Figured I haven’t made an update in a few months so I figured it was time for one!

I’ve now been on Ibrance for two full cycles and starting the 3rd today.  I thought it was very manageable and for the most part it is- but I really hope to get these mouth sores under control.  They are very painful.  The first round I had such bad diarrhea and a huge mouth sore on my tongue that made it hard to eat - I ended up loosing 10lbs.  But my care team has me on Imodium (each day) and gave me the magic mouthwash to try.   They want to see if we can manage the side effects before lowering the dose.  The Imodium has helped the diarrhea so much! I get occasional episodes here and there but not like the first round.   The magic mouthwash just numbs my mouth temporarily but hope we can get the mouth sores to go away soon.  I’m open to suggestions! I rinse with baking soda and salt a few times a day.  Also, some days are just exhausting.  I’m able to make it through and some great days but there is some fatigue. Overall- that’s the worst of it.

Now for some good news- my last round of blood work has great results!! My cancer DNA as well as my tumor markers have come down!!! Even my tumor markers are in ‘normal’ range! This medicine has some side effects- but it’s truly killing the cancer cells!! I’m anxious for my next scan to see where things are but this is good news! My overall bloodwork and iron is good as well.  My white count is low- but not so low to adjust the medication.  I am grateful to be on this medication as it has only been on the market about a year after clinical trials.

I am scheduled to get my ovaries removed October 9th and will have some recovery time after that. More to come in what that looks like but I welcome prayers!

More good news is I am the local speaker at this year’s Power of Pink lunch/ fundraiser for the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation. I’ve also interviewed to sit on their board! Hoping my story can inspire someone to get genetically tested early and to help others going through it.

I’m grateful to keep making memories and still here! I took an adult tap class over the summer which was a lot of fun and slowly dancing in City Modern Ensemble as understudying what I can.  Nick, Everett and I keep busy with trampoline parks, pool days, and putting together puzzles!

Thank you for all your support and continued prayers.  If you could specifically pray for my mouth sores- I’d be grateful.  <3

Much love,
Megan and Everett

I think about you often!!! My mom used the magic mouthwash and also straight lidocaine. Also Paradox mouthwash. She had oral cancer and the radiation made her mouth and throat one big blister. She also used hydrocodone occasionally for the pain. I’m so glad to hear the good news!!! She would use the mouthwash right before she ate anything to help with the pain. It doesn’t last very long. Praying as your body heals so will the sores. Always in my prayers. 😇🙏🙏♥️

Dear Megan, I'm not sure if you can take this along with your other medications but L-Lysine is a supplement that helps with mouth sores. It comes in tablet, liquid drops or gummie form. I have found it to help me, although I don't have cancer. If you can take it, I would be happy to send you a bottle of whatever form you want. Just tell me your address. I am Rebekah Purdom's (from ACDT) grandmother. BTW, she is a company member at the Greenville (SC) Ballet Company and is 22 years old now. Praying for you, Kathleen Beasom

Thank you for the update—and cute, cute pictures of you and your little man! 🥹💗 I loved your news segment too!!! I’m looking forward to hearing you speak at the Power of Pink Luncheon. I may bring my high-school head cheerleading coach, whose mom had breast cancer twice. She said she’d love to hear my friend Megan speak! Please text me more about the genetic testing. Do you mean hereditary cancer-risk testing such as BRCA, and is that different from the cancer-DNA testing you mentioned? I’m concerned about my risk for other cancers and may need testing myself. I was thinking of GeneSight, but apparently that’s for psychiatric-medication responses. What company did you use? Also, fill me in on Nick! I’ve seen you mention him but don’t know that part of your life yet. 😊 I understand the Imodium life—Biktarvy tears my stomach to shreds and, not to give you TMI, makes me “shart” all the time. 😭😂 I once used thick, God-awful-tasting viscous lidocaine for unexplained mouth pain. I swished it around, and it numbed everything. Is that similar to your magic mouthwash? Congratulations on all the progress in your healing journey! I’ll be praying for your mouth sores, upcoming surgery, and continued healing. 💗
