Mason Early Family
Hello- another late post- we had a full day at Universal today, then traveled to Palm Coast, FL, for a lacrosse tournament that starts tomorrow- it's been a busy day.
Mason had an eventful night last night- his fever spiked, so the nurse was in frequently checking on him and drawing blood. He had been 48 hours off of antibiotics, so they were monitoring closely to see if he needed to restart them. They gave him Tylenol first thing this morning to try to stave off the fever spike again, and it triggered his nausea, so he wasn't able to keep it down and just had a groggy day where he didn't want to do much.
He had a case of the chills this morning- and even after being buried in all five of the warm fuzzy blankets we brought him from home, he was still chilled. The nurses were able to find him a beanie cap to try and keep him warm, since he is now pretty bald.
Even though he wasn't feeling his best, he did spend 20 minutes shooting hoops with the occupational therapist (while sitting in his chair). It's a far cry from what he is used to, but we are still proud of him for getting through it as he starts rebuilding his strength. He also did a series of resistance band exercises.
After feeling nauseous all morning, Mason was able to keep down a hot dog at dinner time, as well as his Oreo parfait dessert.
The medical staff let us know that it was pretty normal for him to feel so groggy and tired today- his blood counts continue to decrease. They do plan to give him another blood transfusion tomorrow and they are hopeful he will have more energy again after that treatment.
That's really it for today- we are on day 16 or 17 after his chemo treatments began, and my understanding is that by day 21, he should start rebuilding some of those elements within his blood that the chemo attacked.
Enjoy your weekend!
