Serge here with an overdue update. I apologize, I've not been feeling well, so I've fallen behind on sharing over the last week, so I'll make this quick:
Josh has been home since last Thursday, and it's been great having him home - spending time as a family, and helping him with his projects. I am amazed at how much of a 'go-getter' Josh is as the gears in his mind keep turning.
Honestly, while I sometimes wonder whether he's just trying to keep his mind busy, but I think that Josh is just being himself - thinking tech while rolling with the punches.
After being confined to the hospital for a second month, it's inspiring to see him laughing with his brothers and sister, spending time as a family, him having conversations with Anna and myself, and still having enough energy to work on things he's interested in.
And all this even though he's still dealing with the stomach and intestinal pain that started before he was discharged from the hospital, along with occasional nausea.
Earlier this week, I took him in for a lumbar puncture, bone marrow biopsy, and a dressing change for his Hickman line. We’re waiting for the results from the procedures, but (according to his doctor), his bloodwork has been looking good, which we’re thankful for.
Anyways, on to the Important Update (not that the others are less important).
Yesterday, we received some amazing news from the OHSU Bone Marrow Transplant team: They’ve completed their analysis and identified four (!) donors who would be good options for Josh’s transplant. We’ve asked for a little more information about what that means (and how much of a match the 4 donors were), but just knowing there are donors that have been identified feels like a huge relief.
The OHSU Bone Marrow Transplant team is currently aiming to admit Josh after his third round of chemotherapy, with a target of October 12. They’re working with our team at Randall Children’s Hospital, and the selected donor, to see if that timing will work for everyone.
The date could still change depending on donor availability and how Josh is doing, but we’re hopeful, faithful, and thankful that the transplant process could begin as early as October!
