Over the past month we have taken our van out on it's first two road trips! We have done well over 2,000 miles to access out of state doctors who will help us proceed with Madeleine's care. The difference of having the van instead of stuffing ourselves into a car was enormous! We got to bring Madeleine's wheelchair, which is something we usually have to leave behind (in the past we've used a small stroller which has never fit her support needs). We also brought her additional bedding which includes positioning pillows that allowed her to sleep better than any of our previous trips! The rest of us got to enjoy the extra space as well since we were able to bring a whole cooler of snacks and drinks and we all had appropriate leg room! The bench seating in the back of the van meant that not only were we able to do diaper changes in a clean environment, but that when Madeleine was fed up traveling in her wheelchair she got to sit in her regular car seat in the backrow with her brother AND dad. Overall everyone was happier and healthier on these trips. As a bonus we were able to visit family and friends which was all around lovely! One special highlight (amongst many) was that the kids got to go ride a horse with their Uncle. Please enjoy the photo of Madeleine riding a horse for the first time. She absolutely loved it and was kicking her legs, ready for the horse to keep going!
