Ten days after my prophylactic double mastectomy, I am feeling much better than I was two years ago today, when my surgeon removed a melon-sized tumor and performed a full hysterectomy after my ovarian cancer diagnosis.
This time around, I spent just a single night in the hospital and Chris took a full week off of work to take care of me, then my BFF Lisa came in from California to keep me company, and my dad has dropped by almost every night.
While the pain has been manageable, the soreness, discomfort, and occasional sharp pangs remind me that I'm still healing. I left the hospital last Monday with four drains in; today I am down to two, with another one to be removed tomorrow, if all goes well.
I am so grateful to have the support of friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances. As I move into the next phase in my recovery, I will be updating this site with needs for transportation and companionship. If you've read this far and are available to keep me company at doctor's visits or co-work at home with me, even for just an hour or two, I'd love to see you.
