Change in Plans

A little over a week ago, I was focused on Prostate Cancer, Chemo and Radiation treatments and planning for the future, however long.

Today, everything has changed.

After being hospitalized at Rochelle Community Hospital with severe shortness of breath, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I have since been referred to hospice care and have been told my life expectancy is approximately six months.

At 75 years old, after working 56 years of my life, I never imagined I would be writing something like this.

I am now faced with the difficult task of organizing my estate, addressing financial and legal matters, and making decisions I thought I would have much more time to consider. I am actively seeking pro bono legal assistance for estate planning and advice regarding debt obligations.

At the same time, I continue to struggle with food, household bills, and maintaining my home. The reality is that my health no longer allows me to do many of the things I once could.

I've never been comfortable asking for help. In fact, aside from a short period after my divorce when I needed help with childcare, I've spent my entire life being the one who worked, solved problems, and found a way through difficult situations.

Today, I am asking.

If you know of legal resources, community programs, assistance organizations, volunteers, or anyone who may be able to point me in the right direction, I would deeply appreciate your help. Every suggestion, referral, and act of kindness matters more than I can adequately express.
