Unfortunately I am experiencing a setback. On Wednesday, I was nervous about how the healing was looking and my doctor confirmed an infection. He started me on two oral antibiotics, and they seemed to be working for about 48 hours. Then, things took a turn, and the infected area started to look worse and worse.
I was advised to come to the ER this morning. They have started me on IV antibiotics and I will need a surgery tomorrow called a Debridement to clean out the infection and cut away some dead tissue.
They will need to remove the right tissue expander for the surgery. They’re hoping to be able to put a new one back in tomorrow but won’t know for sure until they’re in there. If they can’t replace it, I will need an additional surgery once this heals to replace the expander.
I’m feeling pretty bummed about it all since recovery seemed to be going so well and this hit me out of no where. Trying to stay as optimistic as possible.
Of course, Dani was out of town when all this happened so my mom, aunt and uncle have been taking care of me and Jason. Dani returns to BWI very late tonight.
Still waiting on test results to know if I need chemotherapy or not. If I do need chemo, the timeline is now pushed back due to needing full recovery from this first, so I may not be back for the start of the school year as I hoped.
Thanks for everyone’s continued love, support, and prayers!
