WEEK 6 *crying emoji x infinity*
The transfer to the acute care floor went as best as it could. The room he is in is a lottttt smaller than where he was previously. On top of this, he's been moved an additional time (within the same floor) because there was no ceiling lift to help transfer him to the chair for physical therapy. Besides this, the nurses have been helpful and attentive, which is reassuring.
Otherwise, Christopher is stable and continues to breathe on his own via his tracheostomy. He is still not "awake" which has proven to be very difficult for everyone he encounters on a regular basis. We miss his presence and the contributions he makes to our lives, minute to minute.
In last week's post, I mentioned him possibly being transferred to Houston, Texas to a Disorders of Consciousness (DoC) rehabilitation program, and unfortunately this will not happen as soon as everyone thought or projected it to be because surprise, surprise....INSURANCE...womp, womp. We are currently in the process of appealing their decision and ask for continued support that they overturn their previous appeal and allow him to get the care that he deserves. Drop your suggestions or resources in the comments below if you believe it could benefit him getting insurance to authorize his admission to the DoC. We are open to exploring anything.
That's all I have in me this week and hope to have better updates regarding his disposition after this current hospitalization by next week.
