With us at the mercy of the social security administration processing Christopher’s disability insurance, we are in a state of limbo and are having to cover caregiving expenses ourselves, whether that is at a facility that would be capable of taking him or a paid at home caregiver. We have no access to his pension or retirement accounts without costly tax or early distribution penalties. The cost of an at home caregiver for 12 hours a day, x4 days a week could range from $960 - $1,200. The goal listed for this need is the upper value. Although this is less than 30% of the time he has caregiving needs, it is 30% less burden for our family and strain on the kids. If we could get day coverage for four days a week, I could see this being more sustainable for the current committed caregivers long term. The ultimate goal is to have his SSDI cover the 24/7 caregiving needs due to him having a tracheostomy and a PEG tube. We are hopeful that this could be possible but will also plan for them not. Their current processing times are 7-7.5 months, his initial application was dated August 2025…so we only have to make it 5 monthsish. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anywaysssss, thanks for considering and if you donate one day, one week, one month, or zero, we know that you are all supporting us regardless.
