Kinsley McLamore
Kinsley was back in the emergency department as she spiked a fever early Friday morning that eventually rose to 103.9. While neutropenia is a common side effect of chemotherapy, severe neutropenia is worrisome since it means the immune system is unable to fight off any infection. Her oncologist warned us that this could happen but these things still catch us off guard, especially since Kinsley has been her usual playful self. Which is a true testament to her strength and perseverance.
Throughout her stay at Hotel Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, she received some expensive perks of added blood and platelet transfusions, an IVIG infusion, and some ongoing IV fluids. She always indulges in their bacon and started to get "extra" strips on her room service orders. Fortunately, the Magnificent Mile and Lake Michigan views don't have an upcharge.
Back in all seriousness, we are whole heartedly thankful that Kinsley's blood cultures remained negative for infection and her fever eventually subsided. She was cleared for discharge Sunday afternoon (with some new meds of course) and made it home in time to enjoy the sunshine!Β
Your support, love, and presence in our lives goes beyond words. We appreciate the positive vibes and prayers for Kinsley!
