A bumpy start on the right path

Kelso’s procedure yesterday was 7 hours delayed, which meant he went all night and day without food and water.

He has had a couple of very scary and painful reactions to medications (once requiring a code call and like 10+ people in order to administer epinephrine).

He is having a variety of ailments, and his baseline has been very very sick for some time.

He was terrified of dying during surgery, and was very upset with me—“why won’t you get me out of this place mommy?“ but he powered through without objections upon assurance that he wouldn’t have to be poked so often after the port was installed.

Yet still, last night while I cuddled him to sleep—by request per usual 🥹—and we could hear the pained cries of an infant echoing through the walls of his own hospital room here on the cancer care unit. He opened his exhausted, teary, almond eyes, lifted his head, and chirped “poor baby.” 💔❤️‍🩹
