Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the incredible outpouring of support. I truly cannot put into words how much it means to me. I am battered, broken, and bruised, but I am here—and I will heal(I am more than happy to share medical updates with anyone who is interested).
But honestly, my injuries are not what I keep thinking about. I keep thinking about how much worse this could have been.
Thank God the accident wasn’t more serious. Thank God no child was involved. But the reality is that it very easily could have been. And that thought is terrifying.
I have crossed this intersection for the past three years, and I have personally witnessed near-misses there on an almost daily basis. Cars flying through. Drivers not paying attention. People trying to cross while children are nearby. Every single time, there is that moment where you think, “Someone is going to get seriously hurt here.”
This time, it was me.
Next time, it could be someone’s child.
That is what I desperately hope people take away from this.
I hope we can stop looking at incidents like this as isolated accidents and start recognizing them as warnings. We have an opportunity to use what happened to me as a teaching moment and, hopefully, as a reason for the city to finally take action - not only at this intersection, but at others where our children and families are put at risk every single day.
We need better school-zone signage. HAWK signals. Lower speed limits. Increased patrols. Anything that can make these intersections safer and prevent another family from receiving a phone call that could change their lives forever.
I am incredibly grateful that I get the chance to heal from this.
Not everyone gets that chance.
Please, let's not wait until a child is seriously injured or killed before we decide that something needs to change.
Our children’s safety should never be something we take for granted.
Again, thank you all so much for your kindness, support, and concern. It truly means more than I can express. ❤️

You are absolutely an incredible testimony of God's grace amd mercy. People need to be extra careful when they get behind the wheel and realize that they are not the only ones on the roads. Continued prayers for your recovery and yes, I would like updates. Melinda 801-690-4929
