Justin Rivers & family
I have had countless people reach out and know that there are so many people who genuinely love Justin and our family. The more people we have before the throne interceding on his behalf , the better. Also, I just haven’t been able to mentally respond in depth with all of the information to every person reaching out.
We woke up Monday morning and everything was normal. Justin and I chatted about what the day looked like and even discussed going to the gym together. Within 20 minutes he was having trouble finding words. His speech was not making sense and he could not relay anything to me that he was trying to say (at least not clearly). Within the hour we were at the ER and a CT scan revealed a bleed on the left side of his brain. He was life flighted to USA Mobile where they ran more scans, etc.
He has a dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF) which is a rare, abnormal connection between arteries and veins in the dura, the protective membrane that covers the brain and spinal cord.
Neuro surgeon says he has a nasty lesion that they will be repairing with 2 treatment plans.
His strength is good, he can walk, move, talk, his sense of humor is still in tact (iykyk), but he is confused with his speech. He can’t pronounce things correctly or fully explain what his brain wants to say. Even asking him simple questions like our kids names, he is having trouble saying them (even though he knows them).
Justin is the most driven person i’ve known. He works efficiently and he works hard. A go-getter at heart. He takes tender care of me and our 3 daughters and is truly our rock. It is hard to see him in this state and it is even harder for him to accept how his mind is “failing” him right now. BUT he also has the heart of a warrior and we know God Is on his side.
Tomorrow, 6/5/25 , the Neurosurgeon team plans to do a second angiogram procedure to embolize any vessels they can. A second surgery will most likely be needed and will take place Monday where they will operate on repairing the rest. They are confident that if/when they repair it, it will not happen ever again.
I have been overwhelmed at the support we have. Between our family, friends, work colleagues, church family… everyone has shown us what THE BODY of Christ looks like. I’m speechless. I don’t know how we could ever repay the honor displayed toward us, the genuine love shown, and the actions of everyone around us. I will never forget it.
If you know me at all, you will know that because of what the Lord has done , I look at everything through a spiritual lens. He wastes nothing. I am hands open in surrender to what he would do through this suffering. I believe this is pivotal for our family and for the great work he will do in Justin’s life. To God be the glory and honor. He is STILL worthy, even in this!
Sunday evening Justin was continuing a little song writing session with a friend. The very lyrics that they were writing about our Fathers heart would be promises to cling to this very week.
“That’s just the King you are
you never leave your own
you chase down a restless heart
the lonely are never alone
you’re interceding
your blood’s intervening …..”
“The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love to deliver them from death and keep them alive in the famine.
We WAIT in HOPE for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you” Psalm 33
