We got great results from last week’s end of induction testing – showing that the treatment is working and doing exactly what her doctors had hoped for! She is still holding strong with no evidence of any leukemia or blast cells in her CNF (central nervous system). Her MRD (minimal residual disease) results were less than .01%, keeping her in the standard risk category for B-ALL leukemia.
We’re still awaiting one last MRD result which will determine whether additional immunotherapy treatment is necessary. I’ll spare you the details on that for now, but they aren’t great so please pray those aren’t needed. On the bright side, we’re seeing her in much better spirits the past few days now that she’s off steroids. She’s been very giggly 😊
Today, we started phase 2 – consolidation, or intensification treatment (another month long stint) whose goal is to prevent leukemia cells from coming back in the future. During consolidation, Joss will undergo weekly lumbar punctures and intravenous chemo treatments for the next 3 weeks as well as taking a daily oral chemo medicine. We’re hoping for continued minimal side effects for her.
While this is a great start to her treatment journey, we still have a very long and exhausting road ahead (at least 2 ½ years we’re told), so please continue to keep us in your prayers and follow along with all the updates on the various ways you can choose to support now and in the coming weeks and months ahead. Thank you each and every one!
