Tomorrow is a big day for Joss. As I mentioned in one of her previous updates, the first 29 days is called the induction phase, the initial and most intensive stage of her chemo treatment. She will undergo another round of chemo, a lumbar puncture or spinal tap as well as a bone marrow extraction. The results from these additional procedures will show how well her body has responded to this intense therapy over the past month and will give her team a roadmap for how her future treatment plan should go.
We're all very anxious for the results and to see what the future holds for her. Initially, there was no trace of cancer cells in her spinal fluid or central nervous system and her bone barrow showed that she was considered standard risk. Please pray that tomorrow's tests will keep her in this lower risk category!
A silver lining at the end of this induction phase is that she won't have to take these terrible steroids twice a day anymore. They are the worst! I'm sure there will still be some that she has to take but thankfully not as often. They cause the worst mood swings (roid rage is a definitely a thing), cravings (think pregnancy x 10) and swelling in your cheeks and abdomen (my little chipmunk). I'm hopeful that once she is off of those we will get some semblance of Jossy back. She is so miserable right now and it absolutely breaks my mama heart for her to not even want to smile, not even a little bit. Please pray for happier days ahead!
