I know it has been quite some time since I've updated everyone so here it goes! Fall means back to school for Josie and back to work for me.  It's very challenging at home to manage all the schedules. Many of my weekdays are 12+ hours due to teaching all day then going off to some school somewhere on Long Island to referee a soccer game. It's fall championship season now and that means those super long days will be less frequent and the end of season paycheck arrives!

Due to my long days, that leaves Melissa, her mom JoEllen and even Mabel to pick up the slack at home and keep everything running smoothly. Josie's school year is off to a great start. She has a girl in her class this year which is really exciting. Most years it's just her and a few boys. Josie loves riding the school bus to and from school and her days are filled with learning and movement: two things she needs to keep her mind and body moving forward.

We've seen a new specialist (physiatrist) and he recommended custom braces for Josie's feet and they seem to help. Her gate is more natural and she's more confident when upright. Her PT at school even showed us before and after videos and there is definitely a difference so chalk that up as a win! Josie's class has taken a field trip to White Post Farms and participated in a school wide Fall Festival.

As for Halloween, Josie has had many great costumes over the years and this one is right up there.  She rocked the Buddy the Elf costume like a champ. It's not quite Bob Ross from years ago, but still so awesome. She trick or treated in her wheelchair while Mabel went door to door and got 2 pieces from each house; one for herself and one for her sister. Their relationship has really come a long way as they both have matured and it's really sweet to watch them interact. Josie loves her sister more than anyone and constantly asks for kisses from Mabel by patting her cheek.

As for the pool, there has been progress and my hope is that November is a groundbreaking month! The builders have been secured, the electrician and plumber have been hired and the town is processing the paperwork for all the permits and I feel like the final stages are nearby. I will definitely update when the crew shows up to tear apart and transform the backyard and give this sweet girl a reason to smile and a chance to thrive! Stay tuned and stay hopeful ❤️
