Today and late into the afternoon was a difficult one on the greens and fairways. Last night I started my first of two Chemo regiments to prevent GVHD as I discussed yesterday. The process went late into the night and early morning. I received very little sleep and this morning I started to feel the side effects of the process.
These are known possibilities, rash, water gain, diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, high blood pressure, compounded with ever dropping numbers platelet, hemoglobin, and red blood cells turns up the heat. I got knocked right into a sand trap and had most of them.
Time to get out the sand wedge. Checked my line, planted my feet, dug deep, tightened my grip, and asked for help. Because Golf with your friends is always better. The medical staff worked on the water gain and nausea. I reached out to friends and family via text, phone, and video chat. The rash did not spread or itch, the diarrhea subsided, and I got a little sleep. To the point this evening I was able to eat most my dinner and complete 5 laps.
I have just finished my second of two Chemo drops this evening and am working on the post medication IV's to help protect my organs. I currently feel much better. It's my hope the side effects will not occur with the second dose but if it does I have a whole cart of friends just waiting to tee off.
Thank you, everyone for the continued words of support, prayer, and donations helping me through this difficult process. There is still much road to walk but you all lighten the burden.
