Grasley's Journey
So Schizencephaly awareness day was May 19th! I’m a few days late but I wanted to tell our story. Grasley was diagnosed with Schizencephaly a few days after birth. The hospital did a full work up on her because she was put up for adoption and because of that they found the large cleft in her brain. She’s missing about a 1/3rd of her right side of the brain. The definition of Schizencephaly is It's characterized by the formation of fluid-filled clefts, or slits, in the brain that are lined with grey matter. These clefts can appear on either or both sides of the brain. It is very rare and not two cases are alike. Because of this the doctors could not give us a lot of information. One doctor I will never forget told us to just expect her to do everything! Don’t limit her because of her disability! This statement I believe was the mercy of Jesus Christ because we have always expected her to do everything and she has defied all the odds! Others doctors and specialists are always surprised at how amazing she is and quiet shocked of how much she can do! We still have a lot to work on and a long road ahead of us but we are always so proud of our girl!!
