Adjusting to life in Philadelphia has been trial by fire. I feel like a country bumpkin fish out of water trying to figure out apartment life in a big city. Thankfully, Glen has helped me stay positive and motivated me to make the most of our time by getting out of my comfort zone to explore the city when we are able to.
We have been here for almost 2 weeks. During that time, Glen has received chemotherapy that depleted his hemoglobin, white blood cells, and ANC (related to immune system). Although it is hard to watch, this is what the doctors want to happen in order for the modified T-Cells that he received yesterday to have room to grow in his body and hopefully give his immune system the needed boost to fight off his cancer.
I write this update from his hospital room following a rough night. We were admitted yesterday and will stay for at least a week while Glen's immune system responds to the T-Cells. Last night was long for the both of us as Glen had a fever that spiked throughout the night. His doctors have assured me this is a normal immune system response and his body is doing exactly what it is supposed to be.
Now is a waiting game. We will manage any immune system responses and hope that we are able to be discharged to return back to our apartment next Tuesday.
As always, thank you for the support, thoughts, messages, and the overwhelming love and generosity for our family.
