Gary's surgery went well.  Gary is in recovery, and able to give the correct answer to 'What is the meaning of life?' - it's 42 in case you are unsure.  Janet has spoken to him on the phone and says his humor and memory are intact.  
Gary has to lie still flat on his back for the next 24 hours, so he's going to miss the sky diving convention tomorrow.
