On May 24, 2023 at 1:30 in the morning, my oldest nephew, who was watching youtube on the television, started to smell a bad smell. He knew his dad was sleeping next to his brother and woke him up immediately because of the bad smell. His father, my brother - in - law, got up and started to look for the issue and saw smoke coming in the house from the garage door. He felt the door and it was extremely hot and he turned to his 9 year old and told him to get his grandma up, as she had just settled in her hospital bed for the night. Once he did that he helped her get her shoes and then his dad said to go wake up his mom and aunt, that would be me, and tell us we needed to get out there was a fire.
Meanwhile, upstairs in my room getting ready for bed myself, I started to smell something burning and thought it was my brother - in - law burning popcorn on the stove; however, the smell got worse. I decided to find out what was going on and who was cooking, but the minute I opened my bedroom door I saw the smoke coming from the attic. I knew there was a fire, so I closed my door, finished getting ready for bed, grabbed my cellphones, and put my sandals on. My nephew was at my door by the time I opened it again, and told me and I said thank you go get your mom and I will take care of getting grandma out.
I then closed my bedroom door and headed downstairs to get my mom out, by helping get her shoes on and getting her up. I called 911 at 1:44 am and reported the fire and during that call I got my disabled mother out, she was able to walk out while I got her wheelchair, and then we joined my sister, her sons and husband outside. My brother - in - law ran to the backyard and grabbed the water hose which he connected to the side facet and started to hose down the garage trying to keep the fire contained.
About five minutes after that the six fire trucks showed up and started to put out the fire. That took all night long as it was not finished until 6:30 am. The fireman found the source of the fire, it was electrical of which they did cut the power to our house at the source to stop any more of it spreading. The fire started in the garage and spread to the attic taking out one side of the house and water and smoke damage took out the other half. We all made it out without injury, which we are grateful for.
On a sad note, we lost everything in the house and we know that the insurance company is taking care of the restoration of the house. However, the insurance company did not give us enough for the cost of living expenses and we do need help. We need help that will help feed a 7 year old, a 9 year old and four adults as we are at a hotel and have no kitchen just the old fashioned microwave. Therefore, we have to eat out most our meals and its getting to be too expensive to cover for the two people in our family that are working, one is concentrating on getting the house cleaned out so that the money the insurance is paying for the debris removal can be used to help pay for the foundation repair which they will not cover.
We also need help to pay for the hotel as we are going to be here for over 2 years. Until then, we are asking for help and we are eternally grateful for any help we can obtain from anyone who will help us reach our $50,000 dollar goal.
My sister does work for friends who also disabled which she is there caregiver, for less than $10 dollars an hour. As for myself, I worked for a National Polling firm from home which is an on-call position so that I can help take care of my disabled mother and my two adorable nephews to help out my sister and brother - in - law. My mother is disabled and cannot work. On top of that, due to the fire that homeowners insurance has gone up, which is normal for anytime you need help to repair a home from those companies, and it has caused her house payment to go up to almost $1600, and she is on a fixed income and still has to pay that house payment during this time.
Thank you for your time and I hope that you will be willing to help my family out so that we can keep a roof over our head at this time. God Bless.

Update: my brother in law has started drywalling the house in his own. We need an attorney to help us get back the money the former contractor agreed to give back but they have new owners that said they do not have to adhere to existing contracts.
Update 2: cost of living
Hotel costs at the different hotels we have stayed at from April of 2024 and on it has cost us $5,000 a month the one we are staying at right now is $1,200 a week and that is just for one hotel room for four adults and two children. We actually need two hotel rooms one that is ADA compliant for our mother because she is disabled and needs an ADA compliant room and she we don't have one.
Food: food costs are a little bit high as well because everything has gone up due to inflation and it is just now starting to try to come back down but it's not down really good at all it is still too high for what they wanted fast food places. We have spent over $5,000 a month for two meals a day since the hotels we've been lucky to stay at actually supply breakfast so as long as we have the breakfast here we can pretty much try to maintain that all day for breakfast and lunch but there's no guarantee and the hotel that we staying at we can't cook at there is only a little microwave so all there is is like a microwave safe dishes and stuff like that and plates and that you can get the grocery store to cook however the refrigerators are small and it won't fit enough food in there so we do have to eat out a lot.
Storage Rooms: as of right now my family has nine storage rooms holding items we were able to salvage from the fire in the house and we still have to go through and clean it up and get rid of things we cannot keep. And that is six people that's enough rooms for all six of people basically they're not very big and we also need help paying for those I will list the prices that we have to pay a month on there but I'm going to include the fact that we are 2 months behind on one that has to be paid because the first one I'm going to list they don't care that we was in the fire not they don't really want to work with us they want us out and the worst way and right now we can't find another place to go with that great big unit so I'm going to list that one down first we are going to need help ASAP to pay these.
We lost the Public Storage Room they would not postpone the payment or extend it my mom was fighting for her life in the hospital and passed away the day before they sold it at auction.
