Kindergarten starts next week! 💙 I honestly can’t believe we’re here.
We’ve been busy these past few weeks with appointments and trying to get everything taken care of now so I don’t have to pull Finn out of school once he starts.
We recently saw his pulmonologist to prepare for the school year and all the new germs that come with kindergarten. Finn was hospitalized in May with respiratory failure from what started as a common cold, so making sure we have a plan in place for the school year is really important to us. He’ll also have a nurse with him throughout the school day, which gives me a little peace of mind knowing he’ll be safe and have someone there who understands his medical needs.
We also have an appointment with the Pittsburgh School for the Blind in October. With Finn’s CVI diagnosis, we’re still trying to understand exactly what and how he sees. He’ll receive vision therapy at school as well. And, of course, he refuses to wear his glasses. Sigh. 🤦♀️😂
I also had our final meeting with Finn’s school to go over his IEP and make sure he has all the services and support he needs. He’ll be receiving PT, OT, speech and vision therapy at school.
And while we’re getting him ready for this next big chapter, we’re still fundraising for Finn’s second stem cell infusion at Duke, which is $15,000. Every donation, share and kind word means so much to us as we continue to fight for every opportunity we can give him. 💙
For all the medical/special-needs moms out there… is there anything else you’ve requested to be included in your child’s IEP that you found especially helpful?
I’d love to hear what worked for your kids! 💙
