When we spent 7 weeks in the hospital there was a lot that happened that we didn’t get to update people along the way. It felt like survival. We rarely knew what day it was. Some days felt like a week. Sometimes I didn’t even feel like it was my life I was living. BUT the grace of God was so evident. Through the thousands of prayers that came from all over the world, the yummy meals so we didn’t have to live on cafeteria food, friends sitting with us for hours when we didn’t know what each day or each surgery would hold, the many Summer Moon deliveries (praise God), and the nurses and doctors who showed compassion and went above and beyond to show their support.
5 weeks in the PICU will change you. It changed us. But it is a really special place. I really believe the nurses who work in the PICU are really special people. We came to know and love some of them really well. The first night in the PICU we were blessed with truly the best nurse. She was gentle but confident, informative and compassionate, clearly gifted at her job, and to this day she is who I would choose to care for Finn.
We were so blessed to have her back multiple times. She was a bright light in the darkest time of our lives. At shift change we would wait to see who our night nurse would be hoping we would get her again!
The first night she told us “we see miracles here” and I’ll always remember that.
A few nights in she asked if it was okay to do a craft with Finn’s handprints. She made this whole picture for him. 😭 We hung it in every room we moved to and will keep it forever.
Jesus really does love Finn. ❤️
