Thank you for every prayer, every hug, every text, every meal, every gift, every encouraging word, and every act of kindness. Most importantly, thank you to every person who has gone before the Father on Ethan’s behalf. We have truly felt your prayers carrying us through some of the hardest days of our lives.

A very special thank you to the Robinson family for creating this page and helping support our family during this incredibly difficult season. We are beyond grateful. Thank you to every individual and family who has loved on us in whatever way you have been able. Every gesture has mattered more than you’ll ever know.

For those just joining us, here’s a brief summary of how we got here.

What Happened

Ethan was involved in a serious ATV accident that caused multiple traumatic injuries. While his injuries were thankfully not life-threatening, they are life-altering and have required multiple surgeries. He suffered fractures to his left arm, wrist, tibia, and fibula, significant soft tissue damage, tendon injuries, a severed radial artery, nerve injuries, and extensive road rash, including to his face. His arm injury ultimately required a complex 12-hour free flap reconstruction to save the limb. We know God has been with Ethan every step of this journey, and we continue to trust Him for complete healing.

Ethan’s Road to Recovery

Day 1

Please pray as Ethan is taken into surgery.

The biggest concern is his thumb, where he injured an artery and possibly a tendon. The first responders had to tie off the artery at the scene to stop life-threatening bleeding before he could be transported to the hospital. The hand surgeons planned to clean the wound and attempt to repair the damage. Thankfully, another artery was still supplying blood flow to his thumb.

He also sustained significant road rash, including to his face, and a severe arm injury that doctors believed would eventually require a skin flap procedure. Thankfully, none of his injuries were considered life-threatening, and his pain was finally beginning to come under better control.

Day 2

Surgeons repaired fractures in Ethan’s wrist using a plate and screws.

Two supplemental tendons could not be repaired, and his radial artery was too severely damaged to reconstruct. His thumb tendons were partially repaired, although they will likely never return completely to normal. Surgeons also repaired and protected damaged nerves, and the plastic surgery team began evaluating the extensive soft tissue injury.

Day 3

Ethan continued to be monitored closely, and thankfully everything remained stable.

His face was being treated multiple times each day for his road rash. Nurses continued frequent circulation checks in both his hand and foot, all of which looked encouraging.

Plastic surgery evaluated his arm and confirmed that reconstruction would be necessary. A wound VAC remained in place to remove fluid, reduce swelling, protect the wound, and prepare it for surgery.

Day 4

Doctors placed a continuous nerve block to help control Ethan’s pain.

We received encouraging news that the tendons controlling his fingers appeared to be functioning well. The nerve controlling his thumb, however, was still unresponsive.

The arm wound was much larger than originally expected, making a free flap reconstruction necessary. Surgeons also repaired the nerve affecting his pinky finger and placed a new wound VAC.

As I traveled back home, I asked for prayers—for safe travels, wisdom for Ethan’s medical team, and peace for Sydney as she remained in Florida without her mommy but surrounded by loving family.

Day 5 — Praise Report! 🙌🏽😭💙

God showed up in an incredible way.

The 12-hour free flap surgery went beautifully. Every blood vessel and every piece of tissue connected exactly as planned.

Then came something none of us expected.

The nerve that had been completely unresponsive before surgery suddenly responded while Ethan was in the operating room.

The surgeon looked at us and simply said, “I don’t know how.”

We smiled through tears because we did.

God.

Even more amazing, Ethan did not require a skin graft from the donor site as originally expected.

He still faces  a critical recovery period. For the next several days his arm has to remain perfectly straight while nurses checked blood flow to the flap every single hour. Any interruption would require emergency surgery.

Thank you for every prayer. We know that each victory belongs entirely to Him.

Day 6

Overall, things continued moving in the right direction.

The Drs have been  very pleased with how Ethan’s flap looks and sounds on the Doppler. He reassure us that the lack of finger and thumb movement is expected because of the significant swelling from surgery. In fact, allowing everything to remain “quiet” gives the nerves the best opportunity to heal.

Ethan developed a fever overnight, but thankfully it resolved on its own. His medical team believes it was caused by inflammation rather than infection. His white blood cell count remained reassuring, and he continued receiving IV antibiotics while being monitored closely.

We also realized we had forgotten to share that Ethan fractured both his tibia and fibula. He will be non-weight-bearing and likely using a wheelchair during recovery. Since his left arm is also injured, we’re still learning what mobility and rehabilitation will look like.

The current plan is several more days in the ICU followed by additional time on the regular hospital floor before he can finally come home.

I also want to say thank you for your patience with the updates.

I’m doing my very best to keep everyone informed, but candidly, some days there simply aren’t many updates. Other days, I honestly don’t have the emotional strength to put into words everything we’re seeing and experiencing. Please know that I’ll continue updating here as I’m able, and I’ll also continue sharing updates through text with family and friends.

Please continue praying for complete healing, healthy nerves, strong blood flow to the flap, wisdom for Ethan’s doctors, peace for our family, and ultimately that God receives all the glory through Ethan’s story. Please also keep Natalie, Caleb, and Sydney in your prayers too as they are all navigating a new normal in all of this too.
