Haven’t posted in a bit so let me catch you up to speed!
In the summer we got the go ahead to sign Blakely up for school and she was so giddy about getting to be with kids! The school has been super supportive and really looking out for Blakely’s needs which has been so comforting!!
Just a week before school was to start we found out that the appetite stimulant Blakely was on unfortunately caused a side effect of Adrenal Insufficiency. Adrenal insufficiency is a condition where the adrenal glands don't produce enough of certain hormones, primarily cortisol. This can lead to various symptoms and, in severe cases, a life-threatening adrenal crisis. Because of this she is on additional medications and has a crisis medication we have to carry with us at all times everywhere Blakely goes. Which obviously at first was very terrifying. But we are hoping it will go away with time, just not sure how long yet. She gets retested for it early September.
Thankfully, the doctors still okayed her to go to school! We started her with half days so she (mainly me) could adjust from being at home and being so closely monitored to being in a class of 22 kids. But she did great! Big sis also had the back to school nerves after a year of homeschooling and her biggest concern was knowing if they get to play together at recess, and unfortunately they don’t. :( The girls have already caught a back to school bug and Blakely has been having tummy issues on top of that so many days have already been missed. But this will just be our life with her being immunocompromised for a while.
August 6th Blakely had her 1 year post BMT celebration, called her rebirthday. “A rebirthday marks a significant turning point or new beginning in one's life, often celebrated after overcoming a major challenge or experiencing a profound personal transformation. It's a day to acknowledge and celebrate a renewed sense of self, a fresh start, or a second chance at life.” Phew, what a year it has been, but so grateful we get to celebrate such a milestone! So happy 1 year to Blakely’s blood 🩸🫶🏼
Tomorrow Blakely will undergo what we are praying to be her FINAL ever BMA (bone marrow aspirate) and “sleepy medicine” aka anesthesia. Please send big prayers to our girly that she can feel comforted and continue to be the brave girl that she is! We are manifesting all 100% mama cancer-free cells! Once we get the results, we are planning on having the ultimate celebration for her early September to celebrate! So say an extra special prayer, send those good vibes our way, let’s get Blakely one step closer to ringing the bell!! 🔔 💕🎗️

I'm so happy that everything seems to be going well. I'm sorry she's having some back and forth with side effects. Hopefully she outgrows the side effects and everything goes well. It's awesome that she was able to go to school and be with other kids. Big hugs! We love you guys and hope and pray that everything keeps getting better
