2 days until Blakely’s 2nd stem cell transplant with mom’s cells!
Tomorrow mom will be going to Mayo to have her cells collected. The doctors would like the cells collected peripherally (through the blood) this time instead of collecting through the hip bones. They typically place an IV in each arm and the blood cycles out of your body into a machine, the stem cells are collected then your blood goes back into your other arm. The veins in my arms are too small so I will have to have a central line placed in my neck while awake which I’m a bit nervous about. But thinking about all Blakely has endured, this is nothing and I can be brave like Blakey!
While mom is getting her cells collected, Blakely and Dad will be transported to the same hospital as mom to receive full body radiation, then travel back to our hospital AND THEN go back that night for a second round of total body radiation. She will be put under with general anesthesia for both of these treatments to be sure her body remains completely still.
We would appreciate all the good vibes and prayers that the cell collection and Blakely’s radiation treatment will go as expected.
On Tuesday, August 6th, Blakely will receive mom’s cells for her second transplant. Then it will be another waiting game for the cells to engraft around days +14 to +21. Blakely is so strong!!!
Thanks for all the love and support as always! 🧡
