This past week we traveled to Arizona for Ella’s third round of autologous stem cell therapy at Total Wellness with Dr. Proefrock. We can’t say enough about Dr. P and his continued care for Ella. Not only do we receive stem cell treatment, but he also provides us with holistic supplements to help with her muscle tone and overall health. We are so thankful for his care and continued guidance. He is always hopeful and encouraged by how well Ella is doing every time we visit.
Autologous stem cell therapy uses Ella’s own stem cells, and in the past treatments we have seen encouraging changes that keep us believing this path is worth pursuing. The most significant gains we see after each round have been speech and cognition. While we know there are no guarantees, we are grateful for the opportunity to continue fighting for every bit of progress and quality of life for her. We are hopeful that we will see some new gross motor skills in the future as well!
The goal of stem cell is not to cure. We use stem cell as another tool to help our girl flourish. We try to pair each round of stem cells with intensive therapy within the 2-10 week window after receiving the cells to get the most out of them. We will be attending an intensive feeding therapy in April and an intensive PT/OT in May. We are thrilled for this opportunity and can’t wait to see continued progress for our girl.
