David P & Family
January 5th. Today most of you know we were snowed and iced in but yesterday we visited David, his 3 beautiful children, my husband and myself ahead of the oncoming storm. We stopped at Lester’s and picked up matzoh ball soup and ribs to bring him for dinner and for us as well. The kids were at other grandparents for the day so they were dropped off to us at TRISL after we had been there about 45 minutes and had a chance to eat and relax. Once they came I brought out the watercolor set, paper and brushes and a cognitive game called Uzzel. David gets 3 hours a day consisting of 1 hour each of PT, OT and speech therapies but little in the ways of cognitive therapy or recreational therapy. So that’s what we did with him and his kiddos. The painted and built patterns and towns with small colored blocks which we used to practice fine motor and social skills like taking turns and asking for trades as well as planning for our structures. David needs to become self sufficient in all his daily maintenance without any assistance in order to go to his next stage of rehab as the staff is not trained for hands on and he will need to keep pace with a group of people who are not recovering from a life threatening injury before coming home.
He loves watching his kiddos and I’m glad he can have them in his life. We are all trying to adjust to the many changes as they come one day at a time. If you are looking for ways to support our family first continue praying for a complete recovery for David and strength for us. I’m dealing with a painful Achilles tendon that could use prayer. We are always grateful for any meal assistance or an occasional errand as we meet the needs of 3 kids and David while navigating all the doctors, schools, insurance and upkeep on ourselves and our home.
