David P & Family
January 23rd: Hallelujah David is home, we are formulating a routine. David’s room was painted first and we had the company called task rabbit disassemble R’leyeh’s, my grandson’s, bed and reassemble it in what had been Kitty’s room. He needed a bed not too low to the ground with a frame. We have created a clear pathway from David’s room to the bathroom and to family room and kitchen so he doesn’t trip over toys, clothes and the many art projects and school worksheets that come home daily. R’leyeh’s room has been painted and then the girls room will get painted and bunk beds assembled on Friday. I wish we could do some of the work ourselves but we just cannot. I’ve cooked dinner the last two nights, a streak? So nice not to have to pack up food to take downtown. We are a family of six now. David is able to dress himself and ambulate with his walker in the house and into the car to go to The Day Institute from 9:30-3. His Anthem insurance runs out on February 1st and that is the insurance that is paying for therapy as Medicaid does not cover it typically. He will get 9 days covered, we will fight for more otherwise it is 500 per day. He needs this therapy and we are looking online with the state for ways to manage it. If anyone is looking for ways to help the biggest need is money to cover the costs of therapy and to pay handymen for room renovations and furniture assembly. Meals are always appreciated as some days I’m taking kids to therapies and other duties related to all our healthcare. (Photo of my brother Andrew visiting David at the rehabilitation institute).
