Surgery recovery
David Burke
Thank you everyone for the love, prayers, and checking in! We very much appreciate them!!
The nerve blocks have worn off, so we are mainly working on pain control this afternoon. He has a pretty large vertical abdominal incision, so pretty much any movement hurts since they cut right through all those abdominal muscles. It will take a bit to recover from.
The plan is to do another CT to check on the shunt and then another ERCP to attempt to remove the stents in his bile ducts. This will happen here in Utah so we will stay into next week. They are aiming to do the ERCP Monday tentatively.
The *shunt* surgery was basically cutting two veins and reconnecting them to reroute some blood out of the liver to reduce the pressure. So that was an open surgery in his abdomen yesterday with a big incision.
The *stents* are very tiny plastic tubes in his bile ducts inside the liver. Those are placed during an ERCP, where they go down his mouth through his stomach and into the bile ducts inside his liver.
I’m not sure if that helps clarify things, but I know a lot of people are asking about that! The nature of these things are very complicated and hard to explain so we apologize if you are utterly confused... some days we are too! 🤪
Biggest prayer would be for pain control over the next few days! Thank you!! ♥️
