Today was the day where Dana met with the larger team to understand next steps and had a follow-up MRI.
First, the good news - aka all the good things she has going for her!
First, the good news - aka all the good things she has going for her!
- She's young, healthy, and active
- Has 100% performance (aka walking, talking, reading, etc)
- The whole tumor was removed
- She has no co-morbidities
- She also has a positive attitude and hope and the support of so many people (like you reading this!!).
And the medical updates:
- The tumor is Grade 4. They are waiting on one more test to come back for full pathology, but the team is 80% positive it is glioblastoma.
- CU Health recommends the gold standard of care which is the following:
- 6 week combined course of radiation (daily, M-F for the 6 weeks) and chemotherapy (pill form).
- starting 4-6 weeks from surgery date (this Friday is 3 weeks post-op).
So while they were hoping to receive all information, there's at least a plan in place to get her on the road to beating this!
At the same time, they are exploring options for additional opinions on treatments, which right now potentially include: Duke (tentatively 10/3), Sloane Kettering (virtual), and UCLA (virtual).
Other things to note:
This Saturday is the Brain Tumor Walk in Denver. If you haven't yet, please sign up if you can to join Dana and the team: https://secure.braintumor.org/site/TR/TeamraiserEvents/DenverBrainTumorWalk?team_id=96065&pg=team&fr_id=4044
Photo today is of Dana in her "Tell Me Something Good" tank and Dana Strong hat on her way to her appointments.
